Dangers of Body Waxing

Things Aren’t Always Smooth When it comes to Waxing!

Everyone wants to have a sexy bikini line during the summer but waxing can be risky.  We forget that nature put pubic hair in pubic areas for a reason.  The hair actually covers sensitive skin and mucous membranes in our lower regions.

The pain that you feel when they RIP away you skin.  OOUUCH!  That’s the protective layer of your skin being removed along with the hair.  This makes it easier for bacteria to be transmitted through the skin.

How Serious is this? Really serious.  You can get quite a number of infections including staph, folliculitis, ingrown hairs and cellulitis.

Before you give up on Was there are a few things that you can do to cut down on the risk of infections:

WHERE TO GET THAT A$$ WAXED?
Choosing a place is super important.  Before you even set up an appointment, make an unexpected visit to see how clean it is.  Going somewhere you have gone before, and know is always best. What most girls don’t know is that your waxologist should be licensed by your state and that they have received formal Brazilian Wax training.

HARD IS ALWAYS BETTER
If your salon puts it on with a roller applicator, then it’s probably using soft wax.  It’s soft and tacky, applies easy and fast but hurts like crazy.  That’s because it tearing your skin.  Hard wax sticks to the hair leaving the skin alone.  It takes longer but hurts a lot less and is safer for you in the long run.

MAKE SURE THERE’S NO DOUBLE DIPPING
Double dipping is no different then with chips and salsa.  It puts bacteria into the wax pot.  Each time the waxologist dips into the wax it should be with a new spatula.  They should also be checking he wax temperature frequently on the inside of their wrist, like a baby bottle.

After waxing try and get some hydrocortisone cream to apply over the next 2 days.  Keep an eye on the area and look out for infections; inflamed ingrown hairs, rashes, or raw, open sores or cuts are all signs that something is not right.  If you start see redness or swelling in the area, an itching or burning sensation, peeling of the skin, or a fever see a Dr. immediately.

If you have a date, and things are going to get, ummmm romantic, you should wait on waxing.  Rubbing another body on a just waxed area is not safe.  It’s advised to wait at least two days.  If you have to get bikini ready, just use a razor, it will suffice.
